To stay more than 30 days or to travel from Phu Quoc to other parts of Viet Nam, an appropriate visa is needed. If entry formalities were completed on the mainland (for example Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City) before flying to Phu Quoc, the island's own exemption no longer applies.
From 1 June 2026 every passenger entering through Phu Quoc International Airport must submit an online declaration before arrival. It is filled in on a phone within 3 days before the arrival date and produces a QR code that is checked at immigration. Passengers in transit who do not cross border control are not covered.
Rules can change. Check again with the immigration authority or the airline before booking.

Frequently asked questions
Is Phu Quoc visa-free and for how many days?
Yes. Foreign nationals entering the island directly are exempt for up to 30 days, on the island only. Citizens of 13 countries (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Belarus) are exempt for 45 days nationwide.
Do I need a visa to go from Phu Quoc to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City?
With the island's 30-day exemption, yes: an appropriate visa is needed to travel to other parts of Viet Nam. Citizens of the 13 countries with the 45-day nationwide exemption can travel on within 45 days without a separate visa. Check again with the immigration authority or the airline.
What is the PAI declaration for entering Phu Quoc?
From 1 June 2026 every passenger entering through Phu Quoc International Airport must submit an online declaration before arrival. It is filled in on a phone within 3 days before arrival and produces a QR code checked at immigration.
What should Indian passport holders know before going to Phu Quoc?
Indian passports have no nationwide exemption. The 30-day exemption applies only when arriving in Phu Quoc directly from abroad (for example connecting through a third country) and staying on the island. A domestic leg in Viet Nam before or after Phu Quoc requires a visa (e-visa). Some passengers have been refused boarding because they misread this rule.
